I actually rather liked Bring It On. In addition to Kirsten Dunst, it has Gabrielle Union, but Eliza Dushku steals the movie.

I think it's an incredibly bad teen flick.

Nah. Kirsten Dunst in locker room. Kirsten Dunst washing cars in bikini. Just Kirsten Dunst in general. Not bad at all.

Oddly, most of the people I know who like it are gay men. Don't think they are responding for the reasons you do.

Gay men seem to like Mean Girls a lot, too, I've noticed. I doubt they're responding for the same reasons, either.

Yeah, another movie I didn't like. The teen girl flicks don't much work for me, with the exception of Clueless. And Heathers, if you consider it a part of that genre (I'm not so sure).

I thought Mean Girls was fine until the assembly near the end.

shannon -- it's one of those films that you must stick with (no matter how it's making you feel) till the end. It's a very frustrating film, in almost a horror-movie way. "Don't go in that room alone", "Never split up", silly things like that, but, the consequences of making decisions weighs much more heavily and the reality of it kind of sucker-punches you in the gut. Granted, it's not a film most people will like. I'm not sure I even did. Like it. Relative term, I suppose.

OH yeah, the film deserves a better print to watch than the ones available through the Internet. The DVD we rented from Netflix looks great. It's really incredibly well filmed with practically each frame shot with this kind of chaotic precision. Difficult and amazing to pull off. It's almost as if the Dardennes have a defnititive style but like to borrow (could be true of almost all directors, I guess), but the ideas for shots that they use are executed just as well or better than the Masters they mimicked.

I recently watched The Defiant Ones, for the first time in many years. I have to revise my opinion on Poitier's acting. I've never though he could act his way out of a paper bag, but I always said that he gave a good performance in TDO. Well his performance, though not dreadful as so many are, was just adequate. But the thing that really left a smudge on this film was Poitier's singing. My God, the guy is tone deaf. It reminded me of a critic (a relative of mine who shall remain nameless) who long ago, while reviewing one of Sidney's performances (I forget which one), mentioned that Poitier destroyed the myth that all Black people have rhythm.

Probably Lilies of the Field, in which, if memory serves, Poitier does "Negro"-type songs in unlistenable versions.

Isn't that the one with the nuns? The Bells of St. Mary's meets Guess Who's Coming to Dinner?

Kirsten Dunst (Bring It On) a "no name"? I ain't goin' for it.

I guess I should have said unknown to me.

Frankly, I still don't know who Kursten Dunst is but I presume she was the blond lead. In movies like this, the least important thing to me is the cast. As long as they don't get in the way of the scriptwriter, director and choreogarpher I'm happy. I can only assume that those who did not enjoy Bring it On and Drumline have Sidney Poitier's problem.
