Why are ya'll talkin bout gay pride and such when I wrote all that movie stuff you could have responded to? Confused

Sorry, bets, but I have to put in my $.02.

Where I think pride comes into play with Gay and Lesbian people has a lot to do with finally coming out. Going against everything that Society has placed against you and realizing that there is in fact nothing wrong with you as a person. Nothing anyone could ever say again to hurt you to the very core of your being. Proud of WHO YOU ARE and not afraid to admit it. Proud of living your life without pretense, or a closet, or a Crystal Church, or whatever else you feel the need to hide behind in order to deceive, not only Society, but one's self. If that isn't something to be proud of, I don't know what is.

I said that, ehle.

It's different of course, than being proud that you have 'come out'. That's a choice that you have made.

Well, not really, you didn't. You initially said that we have nothing to be proud of. All in all, for provocation's sake, probably. But that's how I feel on the matter.

Anyhow, on a more on-topic point. We watched a couple of classics this weekend. Jules et Jim and Andy Warhol's Flesh. The last containing one of my favorite improvised (probably) lines. It's the scene where Candy Darling and Jackie Curtis are looking through these 50s Hollywood Magazines while Joe Dallesandro is getting a head job from Geri Miller. Jackie Curtis looks over nonchalantly, as only a drug-addled drag queen in NYC in the 60s could do and says, "Do you know any poems? I'm STARVED for culture."

lady w,

The 2007 alt.movies.silent calendar has arrived, and it is both gorgeous and informative. (Apparently I share a birthday with Max Schreck.) Well worth the money. Whanks for posting the link.

"All of them?" he asked, just beating off the impulse to use a spent spoonerism about a cleverly humorous employee of a financial institution.

Not a problem, Nancy.

The rest of you - well, pffitt.

Not sure I'd tell people I shared a b-day with Max Schreck, though...

And word to ehle - most pride things aren't about "I'm better than you for existing" but "I'm just as valid as you for existing," claiming terrority that hadn't been available in the past.

It's also a state holiday in Hawaii, which is how Syd manages to remember my birthday. Usually with film.

Is that why the DVD of Pandora's Box is about to come out?

Yep, that's a big part of it (although I could see the restoration happening without the b-day).

The Da Vinci Code was fairly entertaining, as dumb as it is (and I'm talking plot twist-wise, not all the religious stuff, which may or may not be dumb for all I know). Tom Hanks and everyone else kinda just coasts on through, with the exception Ian McKellen, who I'd pretty much watch in anything. Audrey Tautou looks better than she's ever looked on film before, which is pretty much the only reason I rented it, her staring at me from the dvd cover. But the film was fun fluffy stuff and I don't even mind that I spent nearly three hours watching it.
