My favorite Christmas/Holiday movie of all time is The Apartment. I felt the need to post that somewhere, and this seemed like the best spot.

I love that movie, too. A very good christmas movie.

I don't know if I have one favorite christmas movie. I'd have to break it up by genre.

Which reminds me of the claymation collection of movies that Rankin-Bass did back 30+ years ago. My favorite of those was The Year Without A Santa Claus. Heatmiser and Snowmiser getting reprimanded from their mom, Mother Nature. Classic movie that I have to watch each year to get me in the mood.

I really like that movie. I haven't seen it in a long time.

We have it on VHS. I keep wanting to get it on DVD, but it's hard to find for under $15.

Mickey Rooney as Santa Claus, right?

I'm a Rudolph man myself. Even though I used to hide behind the couch whenever the Snow Monster came on.

Yep.

And I watched Rudolph last night. Hubie wanting to be a dentist was always a cool but odd twist to me as a kid. I felt it added something to the whole red nosed reindeer.

Of course, now we have a new holiday classic with Robot Chicken's version of "Who Killed Santa Claus?"

I of course remember when Rudolph first appeared on the scene. I think it was a Gene Autry song. In forth grade our class had a project to draw Santa and he reindeer on the blackboard. Rudy was mighty new then and some kids asked if we could put Rudolph at the head of the reindeer. The teacher said OK and I remember thinking she was pretty radical. I guess I tended to be a traditionalist even back then.

You're absolutely right, and I own the original 78. My best friend refuses that Burl Ives didn't record it first, since he's on the t.v. special. The song was written as a tie-in with a department store.

Sorry, there still ain't nothing like Boris Karloff and the Grinch or Charlie Brown ("Lights, please?"). I haven't seen them in years, but you just can't top 'em; don't even bother trying.

Do they still show the old Norelco ad of Santa riding the shaver through the snow? They used to dust that off every once in a while decades after it first came out.

Gotta love Rudolph too, though. I often use the phrase "Island of Misfit Toys" for one reason or another, usually referring to myself and my friends. And for obvious reasons I've always related to the line, "Nobody wants a Charlie-In-the-Box!!!".

Do people remember the Sprite Christmas jingle? They ran that every year when I was growing up. It was sung to the tune of Good King Wenceslas. "Sprite makes finer holidays/Limon is the reason/Sprite brings...something something (can't remember the words)/To bring you cheer this se-ea-son."
