So looking forward to this movie. And I had the same reaction, too about seeing Mike Myers. |

500 Days of Summer is a creative take on the romantic comedy film. Creative and well-acted especially by Joseph Gordon-Levitt. He has an uncanny ability to be a full-on hunk and a younger than his years fumbler. I've liked every thing I've seen him in. He matched up well with Zoey Dechanel. In some ways it was a view of a girl's first love as experienced by a boy. |

Moi aussi on 500 Days, am most taken by its ad spots and am already most fond of its leads, so that's all right.

Way kewl.
Meanwhile, Uncle Kenneth leaves Julie & Julia near-rapturously sated.

Joseph Gordon-Levitt is probably the best actor below the radar today. Never a less than perfect performance that I I have seen.
Has anyone here seen The Lookout? Not only a good film, but a terrific performance by Gordon-Levitt and shot in Winnipeg. |

500 Days of Summer is an enjoyable/hurtful comedy. Good performances. |

Agree about Gordon-Levitt, but his peak so far is indisputably Mysterious Skin, one of the weirdest movies I've ever seen. And (from recent vintage) one of the best.
Haven't yet seen (500) Days of Summer, but must admit I have been put off by those annoying parentheses. |

I saw Mysterious Skin based on all the Third Eye raves about how good it was. Well, it was all that. I wouldn't call it weird; more like incredible dark and sad. And yes, Gordon-Levitt was fantastic.
A must-see for anyone who hasn't seen. |

I call it weird, and that's really the wrong word, because it is so amazingly unpredictable, foiling expectations at almost every turn. In this day of mediocre plotting and characterization, that's genuinely odd, weird, unusual. Whatever you call it, it's not the norm. |

Dear Columbia Pictures:
As much as I love food, and consider Julia Child to be an institution, and had a roommate who lived next door to JC (although the bum never invited me over), and am looking forward to seeing Julie & Julia - would you please slow down with the marketing push. We all know that the movie's coming out. Most of us are going to see it. You've already got us.
Mention of Julia Child - rather than the movie itself - doesn't have to show up everywhere, including news broadcasts. Julia Child died five years ago; she's not making a comeback. You probably asked for family permission on some level, but you didn't ask *her*, and I really think you should be talking about THE MOVIE.
And I'm sorry - you would have only some influence on this, but Terry Gross did *not* need to replay her **Julia Child** interview.
Thank you,
- me
P.S. - If you start replaying her tv show as a promo, I will come find you and do a Dan Aykroyd on you. |

LOL!!!! Would pay money to see that. It's unfortunate but inevitable, what with actual news gathering, reportage and objective telecasting in America having been systematically replaced by infotainmentalopineocorporateapromotionabloid dreck, in steady increments since 1980, acutely since 2000. Am already more than a tad weary of the J&J Sidebar Child Push myself, and the darned film only just opened. Conversely, if The French Chef ever were to rerun on the hypnobox, it would make me something like ecstatic, but have to say that at present, enough's enough. |

Ah, Lady.
Even though Columbia probably had nothing to do with it they'll reap the rewards. PBS played some of her old shows last night!
So now what are you going to do? Your threat was to Columbia, not PBS. I have a feeling NPR and PBS are merely jumping on the bandwagon. But who am I to say?
PS. Did you miss the article in last weeks NY Times Magazine section? It was about foodies and lead off with Julie and Julia. |

The movie, meanwhile, is getting schizophrenic reviews, with plaudits galore for the mama of Mamie but yawns and snorts for the drama of Amy. |
