| Just surfing the net a bit while waiting for the season-opener of "Bones," and decided to check out the NY Times review of "I Love You Phillip Morris," which is still on my mind (gotta get the DVD when it shows up). It was a pretty good review, but the reviewer identified Steven Russell's wife as "a devout Christian airhead." Anyone who has seen the film knows that she was his best friend apart from Phillip, and supported him in everything except his con games. Did the reviewer decide she was an airhead because she was a Christian? Would he have said that about a Jew or a Muslim or a Buddhist or even an atheist? (She did ask a silly question early in the film, but at the time she was totally discombobulated because her husband was in the hospital, under arrest, and raving that he was gay, so she had good reason to wonder.) |

Black Swan is a silly movie. The story is preposterous. It was painful to see Natalie Portman work so hard over such tripe.

And another county heard from.
Am loving the breadth of response this year's fillums engender.
It renews my hope that this year's Rodeo Drive-eo will be a Battle Royale this year.
Well, it does. Let the Games begin.

Wow. Are we ever at opposite ends on this one! I've seen it twice and could easily see it a third time. It is frightening and suspenseful. Right off the top of my head I can't recall a movie that made me feel as if I were getting a first-hand glimpse not only into an artist's state of mind during the creative process, but also the artist's state of mind while she's losing her mind. Add to that the superb visuals effects, which enhance the story rather than overwhelm it (as so much CGI tends to do these days), and wonderful sound effects which are a remarkable achievement all by themselves, and it becomes a fantastic time at the movies.
This film must be seen on the big screen in a theater with a great sound system. |

Saw it that way. Still think it's tripe, although very entertaining and riveting tripe. I've never been crazy about Portman, so I'm not worried about her wasting her time with it--especially since she's a frontrunner for the Oscar. The movie was stolen IMO by Mila Kunis. |

| I'm unfortunately really poor, and have been really poor for about a month. Not being able to see movies and take part in Current Film discussions in general is a problem, but all the conversations make me want to see Black Swan, whatever I end up thinking of it, desperately. I hope it's still playing around March... |

| Befade, so that's Guy Noir, private eye, somewhere on an upper floor of the Acme building, searching for the answers to life's persistent questions. Licking his balls. |

| Apropos of nothing, Social Network and The King's Speech were probably the best movies of 2010, but the ones I enjoyed the most were The Fighter and The Kids are All Right. |
