Not true. He was also good as the Player King in Hamlet. There's a reason they call it Hamlet.

That's hard to believe, but I'll take your word for it.

So far the only one I've seen is The Sessions, about which I agree with you, though for me it would reside somewhere between "very good" and "great." Maybe "excellent" would fill the bill.

I sensed the "dreadful" about Cloud Atlas and Flight.

Saw the preview of Flight and didn't think it looked very good. I saw the preview of Cloud Atlas (long preview) and thought it looked terrible. I saw a bunch of promotions of CA on TV and that always seems like a desperate attempt to get back the multi-millions it cost to produce.

Thanks for the ratings Marc. Say hello to Mirgan.

Looper was better than "fair" IMO. The action was well-paced and you weren't forced to draw complex diagrams on the bottom of your popcorn box in order to follow it. Though I'd apply "fair" to the telekinetic stuff at the end. We already had to deal with time travel; wasn't necessary to add the twilight zone.

A lot of people are sensing the dreadful in Cloud Atlas, but I suspect will see it anyway...the same way people rush down the street to see an accident. I'm not proud to say I'll be in the throng.

"The Silver Linings Playbook" will be the holiday film of this year and many to come. Bradley Cooper, Jennifer Lawrence and Robert De Niro are outstanding. David O. Russell knows how to direct ensemble casts with great skill.

The movie is hilarious, romantic and really uplifting. A great date flick that won't insult your intelligence.

Argo was driving me nuts with the camerawork at the beginning, but I got over that and really enjoyed the movie. It helps that I barely remember the incident and totally missed the later revelations about what really happened. Affleck certainly knows how to direct action sequences and turn the screws, and does a good job of recreating the hostage crisis--See the credit sequences showing real scenes and their counterparts in the movie. Affleck is also very good in front of the camera. This is one of the best movies of the year.

I regret, though, that the CIA didn't really make the sf epic.

Syd,

there aren't really any action sequences in "Argo." That's what makes it so amazing. It keeps you on the edge of your seat without the usual action movie cliches.

It's a shame that they appear to have made such a mess of Cloud Atlas.

I was thinking of them moving through the crowd in the marketplace. Maybe I should have said crowd sequences. There is the storming of the embassy and a brief chase scene, but mostly Affleck is great at creating tension.

I hadn't heard of this before.
I like D O. R.
Will be sure to catch it.

My son-in-law says it's one of the best books ever written. The movie sounds and looks unwatchable in the extreme. One I will be certain to miss.
