I must admit, "Elysium" doesn't appeal to me either, from what I've seen of it. I think Damon is more appealing in his personal publicity appeals.
You didn't like Jodie Foster in "Maverick," Billy? I thought she was pretty cool in that. And what about "Alice Doesn't Live Here Anymore"? |

Never saw Maverick and forgot she was in Alice. What did she play? Actually I didn't mind her in the original Freaky Friday, though I preferred, um, Lindsay Lohan in the same role in the remake. Yes, I did. |

The buzz I heard was that Elysium was 2/3 of that intelligent sci-fi pic that comes along every couple years at best, and then the last 1/3 reverts to dumb CGI orgy of things exploding and giant machines buggering each other. Can't take any more of that, so it's WFV here.
Also "meh" about Ms. Jody in everything except SotL and maybe that jetplane thriller from the mid-00's. ( Hanging my head as I say that, despite the cultural uplift of the NYTFF and 3rd Eye, I have yet to see Alice DLHA, and so remain a cinema rube.) |

| In "Alice Doesn't Live Here Anymore," Jodie Foster was the kid who befriended Alice's son. I'll admit I thought she was a boy at first. But then again, I thought the Feral Kid in "The Road Warrior" was a girl at first. |

As much as I admire Matt Damon, Elysium sounds like the kind of movie I simply despise. The only reason I will ever see it is to see my distaste for Jodie Foster's acting confirmed (if Roeper is to be believed).
I adored Foster in The Silence of the Lambs and abhorred her in every other movie she's ever made--yes, including Taxi Driver.
What's your beef with Jodie Foster's acting? I can only guess you're pushing back against the hype she received for so long.
I'm such a sci-fi whore that Elysium is the first film in two months that I'll pay to see (Jobs was a freebie!). The presence of Matt Damon makes it a no-brainer for me because I have absolute trust in his choice of projects. Almost every film I've seen him in was a winner; at the very least there's an attempt at quality. Put conscientious actors like Damon or Clooney in a movie and I'm there.
And yes, I'm looking forward to seeing Foster too. |

Gary--You are insane not to seen SotL. It is a truly great film and one of the handful of deserving Oscar winners. And it is a rare, rare chance to see Jodie Foster actually doing terrific acting.
Syd--Re-saw The Accused recently. It's a piece of trash. |

| It certainly may be a great movie, but it's not the kind of movie I'd want to see. I've seen small bits of it and it's not for me. There are a number of movies that are apparently very well done, but their story lines are not what I want to see. If I were a lot younger it would be a different story. |

Okay. I agree there are certain types of films I don't want to see. And SotL is that type of film--on paper. It just happens to be amazing on film. |

I've heard that statement many times in the clips from SotL.
Have seen and heard Lecter speaking from his cell quite often in the movie clips. For me Lecter was disgusting and I didn't care for Hopkins in the least, which is strange because I almost always like him as an actor. |

| Clips and trailers aren't always the best items to judge a movie by. I remember seeing the trailer of "The Graduate" back in the 60s and thinking it looked terrible. I can't remember why I went to see it anyway--but I'm glad I did. |
