My format was all out of whack too. Glad we turned the page.

All the best to you and Mirgun's new adventures. Say hello to your uncle for me too.

I'm going to see in 3-D Gravity at the IMAX in Moore, probably on Wednesday afternoon. It looks like a film for which the extra charge is worth it.

I've also decided to skip the regular 3D screening on Monday and hold out until Wednesday evening for IMAX. Marc plus my daughter and son-in-law convinced me.

I much appreciate the relaxed and lighthearted approach to ethnic slurs offered by our Limey cocksucker correspondent, and the humorous Chariots of Fire reference. In Hollywood, the kikes and wops have had their moment and must now pay their respects to the ascendant greaseballs and wetbacks. Ole! Oy vey!

Or those crazy WASIAs (white anglo-scandinavian-irish agnostics).

Interesting that both kike and wop are terms derived from Ellis Island procedures. Wop was an acronym for "without papers" and kike came from "kikeleh," the "O" that Jews would write in if they couldn't sign a name (they refused to mark an "X," because it denoted the Christian cross, for them). As y'all are probably aware. It's the Mick in me, can't stop the chatter sometimes.

That reminds me, I've sometimes wondered if "shiksa" is considered a pejorative term. It probably is if a strict Jewish mother calls her son's girlfriend one, but in general...?

I have always heard that wop came from the Spanish "guapo", meaning handsome in the young male sense.

I also read about the Ellis Island creation of those two terms.

Carrobin, shiksa just means a non-Jewish female, but you are correct about strict Jewish mothers using the term as an insult about their son's girlfriend. Which reminds me of a joke:

Two Jewish mother's find each other on a bus in NYC. They haven't seen each other for a long time. They both have a heavy Jewish accent. Sarah and Ruth. Sarah asks Ruth about her daughter and Ruth says that she is now married to a very nice man. Sarah asks if he has money and Ruth says that he has his own business and they live very well. Ruth asks Sarah about her son Danny. Sarah says, "Oh he is in a very good relationship and is very happy." Ruth asks is they are living together and Sarah replies, "Yes they are living together, Danny and Leonard." Ruth says, " So he is living with another man, Leonard." "yes", says Sarah. Ruth asks, "Is he Jewish?" Sarah replies, "Of course he's Jewish. What do you think, he's queer?"

Strange but funny!

I went out for a while with a good-looking Jewish guy (he also worked at the film class) who was proud of being Sephardic rather than Ashkenasic. I'm sure that his mother would have considered me an unsuitable shiksa. The only thing we really had in common, though, was a love of movies.

All the Jewish guys I went out with were very neurotic and mostly un or under employed.

A lot of Jewish guys in the States are different than the Canadian Jewish guys, who are rarely neurotic or unsure of themselves. Well the ones in Winnipeg anyway. Laughing Not sure about the generations after mine.

Actually, Gene taught at a school in New Jersey, and he wasn't at all neurotic--just a bit egotistical. But as I said, he was handsome, and that always helps.
