I saw Trainwreck this afternoon and liked it much more than I thought I would. Amy Schumer made a very good movie and her character in the movie is someone who is rather strange and sort of sad and does about many things that are one-sided on her side.

It is a movie that should be seen. Who on here has seen it?

It is funny but flawed. The Schumer character works better in stand-up routines than in a full length feature.

Straight Outta Compton is a huge hit at the box office, and with good reason. It's a galvanic film. The history of N.W.A.--its roots and its ramifications and its ever-unpredictable personal stories--is told by director F. Gary Gray and a bunch of extraordinary actors, and the results are riveting from beginning to end. Full disclosure: I am a long-time non-fan of rap music. But this movie gets me closer. O'Shea Jackson Jr., Corey Hawkins, and Jason Mitchell are fantastic as (respectively) Ice Cube, Dr. Dre, and Eazy-E, but the standout performance is Paul Giamatti's as their manager Jerry Heller. Giamatti was robbed of an Oscar nomination (and IMO the Oscar itself) in 2002 (for Sideways), but there better not be a repeat this year (in the supporting category this time). Giamatti gives new dimension to the adjective ""layered." But everybody is great, and director Gray's achievement is monumental.

Have you figured out what NWA stands for yet?

Possibly G. was teasing you on the basis of "non-fan" of rap music.

For what it is worth for an embarrassingly long time I thought NSFW meant Now So Fucking What based on the first context I ran across it in.

NWA is, I assume, Elmer Fudd's favorite special interest group.

Back in 1991, I do recall wondering for a few months what OPP stood for. Not enough to actually ask anyone or listen to the lyrics of the song. But it took a while before the meaning was revealed to me.

The first time I ever heard "O.G." was in this context:

ORIGINAL GANGSTA
O.G.

as part of a song.

Guess what I thought "O.G." meant.

"Oh, gee!"

It's generational.

And had to Google this one. Yep. Generational.

However, I do know the meaning of DTF.

I remember when I learned this. About 9:55 AM MDT, August 21, 2015. Which makes fairly clear I haven't been much of a rap fan.

Before the web, there were acronyms like TANSTAAFL. That was sci-fi writer Robert Heinlein's favorite.
