| Memoirs of a Geisha reminds one of the old tearjerkers from the 40's and the 50's. Every scene feels like you have seen it befiore. A dull movie. |

Found out today that Bettie Page is a biggie with the Lesbian crowd. Didn't know that.
Guess I will find out more this weekend when I see the movie. |

| So my chances of picking up a Lesbian are improved at the Bettie Page film? Awright! |

| I too think New World was a much better film than most reviews would have it. |

| It's wrong to see Malick's stuff on anything other than a big screen with great sound. My son and I saw it last month-- wow. |

| I ha ve a big screen HDTV. I'd much rather watch a film on my television than endure the shitty presentations at our local cineplex. |

I have a friend who spent about £,6,000 installing an 84" screen and projector in a spare room for much the same reason. That and talking teengers, the rustling of sweet papers etc.
Plus, by the time he'd paid for a babysitter, either a pre or post film drink, tickets and snacks, he did not think that a night out at the cinema was particularly good value. |

Although it really depends on the audience - the repertory folks, who are there to see the film more than because it's something to do, usually don't behave like that - or put up with those who do. |

I was going to put that in my post. There's no doubt that watching movies at the local multiplex is usually a dismal experience.
And our community auditorium (recently remodeled) where they show safe, months old "art films" used to have terrible sound - wonder if it still does. |

Gromit:
I've decided to post over here about Judy Holliday. My favorite films were 1. Born Yesterday, 2. It Should Happen To You, 3. Bells are Ringing.
It's true the voice is annoying, but she was a great actress and knew how to use it (unlike Melonie Griffith and her "baby voice" (shudder)).
It Should Happen To You also stars my very favorite actor Jack Lemmon.
(A young woman decides to make a name for herself by renting a billboard with her name and face on it.) She becomes more famous than she can handle.
Bells are Ringing (a musical) has a lot of great songs (The Party's Over is one of them), a funny plot (taken from Broadway). You might be surprised to learn that Judy really can sing. |
