And even with your great estimation of Costner's star power, can you really believe him desirable enough to lay three generations of women in one immediate family?

I saw it a different way. Costner's character was extremely passive. The women chased him not him them. The grandmother was merely using him to prove she was still "young". The mother/daughter went after him because she was conflicted about the man she eventually married (and probably to get even with the mother). And finally, Aniston's character (also conflicted about her life/boyfriend/sister's wedding) went after him because she was actually looking for her mother. Weird huh!

Still, it was an interesting, mildly amusing film for a cold January.

But this actor was supposed to be someone who could have FATHERED Jennifer Aniston's character.
Are you mathematically-challenged or do you just have a very strange sense of humor?

Rolling Eyes

Well at 51, I suppose Costner could just have been responsible.

And yes I do have a wierd sense of humour, but no, in this instance I was not exercising it, nor, it would seem, the other parts of my brain.

My remaindered "Showgirls" VIP edition (shot glasses, deck of cards, etc.) arrived yesterday. It's still in its cellophane wrapper. I notice a Blockbuster sticker in the upper rt. hand corner.
Does anyone know if this means that my copy of "Showgirls" has been edited (that is, censored)? I've heard that Blockbuster (as well as Walmart, etc.) edits their videos.

I would feel very cheated if it had.

As I said earlier, Costner's character was supposed to be 55.

I was reading an NYT article about Michael Jackson's money (and what happened to it), and saw this:

Quote:
MR. JACKSON indulged in other pricey vanity projects, including what one adviser believes to be the most expensive — a 35-minute film called "Ghosts" that he co-wrote with the novelist Stephen King and shot in 1997 with Stan Winston, a special-effects whiz that cost well above $15 million.

Has anybody heard about this? Was it any good?

I'd like to see the Lon Chaney. And there's a silent Moulin Rouge!

Offer ends 1 June.

Interesting list, Lady W.

Have you seen HOTEL IMPERIAL? That's the one I'd like to see.

These are all new to me except for THE SCARLET CAR (and I haven't seen that). Didn't Maurice Stiller do THE WHITE HELL OF PALU-PITZU (or whatever the title is)?

I'd like to place an order, but work keeps interrupting (grrr!).

He's known for directing "Gosta Berlings Saga" with Garbo.

DUH!!! And that release has been advertised all over the place, which is why I knew I'd seen his name recently.

I found out last night that Frank Capra's silent film THE MATINEE IDOL is available at Deep Discount DVD for $5.98. But it turns out there are a number of Frank Capra films over there in the < $10 category: MEET JOHN DOE, POCKETFUL OF MIRACLES, BROADYWAY BILL, even some things associated with Capra but not done by him.

At last got around to seeing Fight Club. I did not enjoy it at all. Well directed and acted, but in spite of its supposed antiviolence posture, it is a commercial exploitation of extreme violence. Its message is hollow and its story line is pure hokum.

Sorry you feel like that, Ghulam.

I really enjoyed the movie (and the book), and feel there were a lot of other things going on in that movie, about self-identity and perceptions of reality.
