billy, home viewing technology is related to the watching of movies. And Lady, Gromit and I were talking to befade, not you.
I'm finding this discussion really bizarre. Befade asked something directly impacting her ability to watch home movies, we answered. It wasn't off topic.
We're getting closer to having more posts about whether or not this was approriate than for the actual discussion. It's not that important, folks. Save it for when the forum goes spiraling out of control.
And any other discussion of this really needs to be moved elsewhere. |

Does Marc think the American Idol fans are talking to him?
Lady,
I could be wrong, but I think Billy was less asking the conversation be dropped than pointing out a kind of hypocrisy. "What's sauce for the goose, etc." |

| There's no need to defend yourself. You did nothing improper. In fact, I picked up some advice that may come in handy someday. |

whether or not you find discussions of DVD players boring, they are more relevant to the reason this site exists (film) than are discussions of crossword puzzles or shitty television shows! |

I do not think that anybody is trying to tell anybody else where ot what to post. The brief discussion on DVD player maintenance arose as part of an ongoing conversation and did not drag on or overwhelm the forum. Here was a good a place to discuss it as any. A comment that the subject is of no interest should be taken at face value rather than as a rebuke. At worst it should be seen as a hint not to go on at length on the subject.
Still smarting form the theatre vs music dust up, it seems that everybody's sensitivity is turned up way too high, like all the way to eleven man. |

You keep making these bullshit comments. Please make yourself aware of the fact that this site exists to examine a variety of artistic forms, whether you think it should or not. We are not just a film society. We have Book, Television, Music, and Theater forums. |

My DVD player sometimes get tired after about 90 minutes and will stutter a little. I just hit stop, wait a moment, and it resumes normal play. I think the primary cause is that it's a cheap piece of junk I bought at Best Buy for $45.
Renting Babel tonight. |

Renting Babel tonight.
Or it could be absolutely normal.
Most Dvd's are dual layer discs, and often there is a second or two pause when the player switches to reading the next layer. This would normally occur around the 80 or 90 minute mark I believe.
If it's just one brief freeze and then continues fine, I'd say it's normal.
I thought Babel was an awkward mess, but a few people here thought it was a masterpiece. |

| I'm not sure I'd go so far as to call Babel a "masterpiece", but it was the best film of 2006 for me. |
