"The Martian" is a visual marvel. Wonderful sets and cinematography. It has a good story line and is probably the best sci-fi movie since "2001: A Space Odyssey", but with more thrills and humor. I did not care much for Ridley Scott's dystopic movies but this one is first class entertainment.

I have hopes it will be my favorite Martian movie. (see what I did there)

And Matt can redeem himself after his lackluster turn in "Interstellar."

Ridley Scott directs The Martian with grace and pace, and Matt Damon's charm and chops carry it far. But for much of its running time (2:20) it reads dry and technological and by the numbers. The last fifteen minutes or so, however, almost make up for everything. The last act is killer--exciting, suspenseful, and moving.

99 Homes is a cinematic depiction of the housing crisis which started in 2008 and still persists. Michael Shannon plays a real estate broker who kicks people out of their foreclosed houses and Andrew Garfield is one of the kickees. Garfield decides to get his home back by working for Shannon. The story is riveting. Both actors shine under the direction of Ramin Bahrani, who dedicates the film to the late Roger Ebert. Ebert was an early and outspoken champion of Bahrani's work, and for good reason. "99 Homes" does them both proud.

I enjoyed Ramin Bahrani's 'Chop Shop' and 'Goodbye Solo', and am looking forward to seeing his '99 Homes'. It is running in a theater in Saratoga Springs.

I liked Man Push Cart -- his first low-budget feature.
Didn't see Chop Shop. Which sounds good.
Goodbye, Solo was fine, but didn't really hold my attention.
Will keep- an eye out for 99 Homes, but the Dvd market just ain't what it used to be.

I had seen the ads and was not interested, but, yeah, Bahrani as director changes that. I loved MPC and GS.

I think it's a bit oversold. Good movie, nowhere near great.

I watched it this afternoon. Found it to be very good and visually excellent. Everyone of the actors were perfect and, like you wrote Blunt and Del Toro were excellent. Loved the action and the driving etc. Cool

"Gett: The Trial of Viviane Amsalem" is a splendid Israeli movie about how difficult it is for a woman to get a divorce if the husband refuses to grant it. The court, consisting of three rabbis, gives her the runaround for five years! Sad and funny at the same time. Not to be missed.

Ramin Bahrani is known mostly for making offbeat movies. However his 99 Homes is very much on the beaten path. It is an over-dramatized and somewhat improbable story of being seduced followed by redemption. Very good performances by Andrew Garfield and Michael Shannon.
