Infinitely Polar Bear was good?
I saw the dvd recently and it look kind of awful.
Sort of a sincere issue-emotional, ultimately feel-good chick flick or something. |

It was emotional, but also funny. A true story, quite inspirational but not at all smarmy. Not remotely a "chick flick" as I've ever understood the term. And blessed with a great, great, award-worthy lead performance by Mark Ruffalo.
It's not out on DVD yet. Are you sure we're talking about the same movie? (Though I have seen the DVD cover on Amazon in a pre-order ad and must admit that the cover is terrible and gives no idea that the movie is about manic-depression, now called bipolar disorder (hence the "polar bear" of the title). |

It's on Dvd here.
Some films get released earlier in various countries for whatever reason.
It still looks and sounds questionable, but I'll keep it in mind if I hear other positive things about it. |

I haven't done a very good job with 2015 films.
Here's what I've seen:
1. Hard to Be a God
2. Love & Mercy
3. Rocks in My Pocket (Latvian animation)
4. Theeb (Jordan)
5. Low Down
6. Lil Quin Quin
7. Phoenix
8. Eisenstein in Guanajuato
Here's my To-See List:
Jauja
99 Homes (Bahrani)
Fish & Cat
Forbidden Room (Maddin)
Timbuktu
Ex Machina
Mr Turner
The Martian
Joy (David O. Russell)
Any recs?
What else am I missing?
I really need to go back a few months in Current and see what people liked. But thought I could solicit some suggestions now. |

Just look it up on Metacritic or Rotten Tomatoes if you don't believe me. This ain't no chick flick. And it speaks volumes about bipolar syndrome. |

I already gave my suggestions but here they are again: Love & Mercy, Infinitely Polar Bear, Ricki and the Flash, and The End of the Tour. Waiting to see Room, Me and Earl and the Dying Girl, and a few other indies.
Amy is a solid doc. Spotlight has excellent acting and a good story though it disappointed me. Time Out of Mind uses a semi-documentary approach to telling the story of a homeless man played by Richard Gere, and it's worth seeing. |

I've heard some good things about Me and Earl and the Dying Girl. I keep vaguely think of picking up the dvd. But haven't.
Ricki and the Flash is not for me.
The End of the Tour sounds promising. First I've heard of it.
Amy and the Jobs movie should go on my to-see list. |

There also seems to be a slew of middlebrow mediocres out there, like "Truth" and "Our Brand is Crisis," which I haven't seen and probably won't. More and more, 3rd Eye is a resource to help me see only what is the best because that's all we have time to see these days. Gromit, I hope you see Mr. Turner, which I thought was exquisite and as well-crafted as one of Mr. Turner's paintings. |

Yesterday, my son and I went to see Spectre in the afternoon. I liked it a lot, but my son (Dylan) didn't like it better than I did. The funny thing is that his wife likes certain movies that I also like.
The only thing about the movie that I wasn't crazy about was that it should have been a bit shorter. Did have a lot of action. And a lot of interesting visions.
It is worth seeing. |

THe Daniel Craig Bond movies have ranged from A+ (Casino Royale) to C (Skyfall) to F- (Quantum of Solace) IMO. Do you agree? Where do you think this one ranks? |

We saw Bridge o'Spies and The Martian this weekend, both solid and good ensembles....I can see TM being too dry and techie in places for some, but I love that stuff and it was a visual treat. Ingenuity is fun to watch, and I'm off potatoes for a while. BoS had its moments, and Spielberg shows his usual regard for the family man, but Mark Rylance as the Russian spy was the standout for me. But, as always, I want to go factcheck the tenderhearted Sberg. |
