Coinky dink or some weird planet alignment thingy? Works for me (huggy emoticon here).
Midnight Cowboy is tame, of course, compared to most post-80s product, but still...
Marj, I know nothing, nobody in Hollywood knows anything, but we shall see, or at least, you shall. Me, I'll be taking notes in a darkened theater and trying to convince myself that it's a living. Ah, Tinseltown.
Happy Post-Blanchelatin', all, and enjoy the Shenanigans at the Kodak.

Giving away an Oscar based on the amount of profanity has never been an issue, at least from what I remember in the last few years.
Inla's got it right about the American sector. And I'll add that it's not so much in the theater that the standards becomes an issue. It's when they get that movie home that ears get covered and the FFW button gets worn done more than PAUSE. |

I wish it were just profanity. It's the combination of profanity, blood and violence that acadamy voters don't like. |

I personally guarantee that Scorsese will win the Oscar for best director, but best film is not so clear cut. |

I'm encouraged by this conversation, for the simple reason that when Ferdy On Films restarts under its new aegis of The Beachwood Reporter, I'll be doing a film-by-film study of Scorsese's career. |

Alan Arkin did not get one blanche vote.
And I agree, I like Ellen so far.

Looking forward to reading that.
BTW, found one of the bookmarks on the People, Places and Things page of interest.... Wacky Packages (which I've collected since a kid). |

Actually I owe the idea to Joe. He suggested doing a Scorsese essay. |

Apparently they changed their minds this year. |

You're right. I realized that later. |

I respectfully rescind this post and would like to apologize to Mr. Arkin for being so blah-say about his Oscar-winning capabilities. |

Maybe enough voters saw the trailer to Norbit that they said, "Now let's just wait a minute here," and gave Arkin a career award. Little Miss Sunshine had to win something, and Arkin was enjoyable. |
