In that case, Earl, you may like the true story about Albert and Victoria. Actually I don't know if this is really true, but I like it. Apparently Albert loved the look of Victoria's alabaster white shoulders, so he would stand, leaning against a mantle as her ladies in waiting, undressed her. Voyeur or awaiting lover? You tell me.

Saw Moira Shearer's Red Shoes again after an interval of 60 years. The ballet scenes remain enthralling, but the rest seems dated.

I agree completely, but the color photography makes up for most of it. Hope you saw it in a good print, because the color is really amazing.

Billy,

I insist that you watch AS IT IS IN HEAVEN on netfilx free streaming.
I will not repeat this message. I have operatives in Manhattan who can apply pressure, Mr. Weedeen. So see the movie or else.

Call the goons off. As of thirty seconds ago, it's #1 in my instant queue. What is so great about it? (Checked your former posts and found nothing.)

I see that it stars Michael Nyqvist from The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo, which is a good start.

Agree. The recently released Criterion DVD is excellent.

Billy,

As It is In Heaven
is a terrific little picture that has somehow fallen between the cracks in this country. It's been a phenomenon in Australia (I have no idea why), playing in Sydney non-stop for the past 7 years.
I screened it at my theater in Taos and it was loved by audiences.

Anyone here a fan of Lantana?
I did a quick search here and only found a handful of brief references to it from a few years back, mostly from ex-3rdeyers.
I watched it last night and found it to be a pretty intriguing film. It put me in mind of a number of other films such as The Ice Storm, American Beauty, some Mamet such as Homicide, etc.

The characters are all intertwined in a various ways, which made for some good dynamics.
I especially liked Barbara Hershey as a psychologist who starts losing her bearings as her own marriage to depressive Geoffrey Rush continues to crumble.
There's a murder and investigation, but really the film is focused on its characters, their relationships and issues of trust.

Lantana is definitely worth checking out.

I remember liking it for the character dynamics you describe, back in my "Bart" days here, though I've rarely liked Barbara Hershey in anything. Lantana is some kind of thicket, as I recall and LaPaglia presents it to the viewer as a visual metaphor at one point, climbing into the stuff. Will watch again, thanks for mentioning.

Saw Lantana years ago and recall liking it. Had a noirish quality.

Kangaroo Noir? I'm so sure that's the formal term for it. Smile

What I don't get is how good LaPaglia was in that film, and how boring he has been on U.S. television. Just hard to make the jump sometimes.

Yeah, she's a lousy actress. I find her very hard to watch.
